KAIMOSI FRIENDS UNIVERSITY PREPARES EDUCATION STUDENTS FOR THE FUTURE BY EMBRACING THE COMPETENCY BASED CURRICULUM

Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) took a proactive step towards educational advancement by hosting a comprehensive training session on April 3rd and 4th, 2024, aimed at equipping its Education students with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in Kenya's evolving educational landscape. The focus of the training centered on the implementation of the Competency Based Curriculum (CBC), a transformative approach to education in the country.

The training was inaugurated by acting Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic and Student Affairs, Prof Julius Kipkemboi, who graciously stepped in on behalf of the acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mwita. Joined by other esteemed senior officers of the university, including the Dean of the School of Education, Dr. Samuel Maragia, the Associate Dean, Dr. Metrine Sulungai, Dr. Amugune and Dr. Were, all distinguished members of the School of Education, the event brought together key stakeholders in education.

Throughout the two-day session, participants delved into a wide array of topics crucial for understanding and implementing the CBC. From exploring the fundamental changes brought about by the Competency Curriculum in Kenya to examining updates in teacher professional documents and methods of assessment tailored to the CBC framework, the training provided a comprehensive overview of the curriculum's nuances. Moreover, discussions on special needs education and action research in teacher education underscored the university's commitment to inclusive and evidence-based teaching practices.

Expressing gratitude to the School of Education for organizing the seminar, the acting DVC ASA urged students to embrace the forthcoming changes with diligence and professionalism. He emphasized the pivotal role of Kaimosi Friends University's Education students as ambassadors of excellence, encouraging them to not only adapt to the new curriculum but also to strive for distinction in their teaching endeavors.

As KAFU continues to champion innovation and excellence in education, the training served as a demonstration to the university's dedication to preparing its students for success in the dynamic landscape of Kenyan education. With a focus on equipping future educators with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the Competency Based Curriculum, Kaimosi Friends University remains at the forefront of educational transformation in Kenya.
