The Centre of Excellence on Climate Action and Research (CECARE) was established at Kaimosi Friends University in September 2024 in collaboration with the County Government of Vihiga CGV and the University Fund (UF). It is responsible for informing policies through research and training on Climate Change issues, including adaptation, mitigation, and financing.
The primary goal of this centre is to understand climate variability and climate change, as well as their impact on the environment. The centre will engage in activities such as:
- Conducting research, managing climate information, and documenting best practices for addressing climate change.
- Organizing outreach activities to increase stakeholder awareness about climate change and its consequences.
- Developing and implementing action-oriented community initiatives to build climate change resilience, adaptation, mitigation, and secure climate change financing.
- Unpacking the various global documents on climate change such as the declarations and frameworks to contribute to Sustainable Development Goals.
- A centre of innovation for various sectors, including renewable energy, clean energy solutions, recycling, and sustainable knowledge management tools.
