The first Kaimosi Friends University Students Association (KAFUSA) council and congress members were officially sworn into office on February 27, 2023, at the University's Assembly Hall. The newly elected president of the association and chairperson of the governing council is third-year Applied Mathematics student, Collins Munialo Wekesa. The Secretary General is Hillary Kiprotich, a second-year Education student.
The other members of the SGC are Nancy Nyatichi (Vice President), Jonathan Mutinda (Finance), Mercy Jeptepkeny (Academics), Samuel Ongeta (Games, Sports and Entertainment), and Beatrice Dayo as Gender and Special Interest Secretary. Additionally, thirteen members of Congress, comprised of representatives from Schools and halls of residence, were also sworn in during the ceremony, which was presided over by the University Legal Officer, Linet Mayavi.
During the ceremony, the DVC Academic and Student Affairs, Prof Julius Kipkembo, challenged the new leadership to prioritize commitment and integrity, while also encouraging them to use this opportunity to build their resumes as leaders. KAFU Management pledged to support and nurture their growth.
The chairperson of the electoral committee, Dr Margaret Omondi, lauded the students for conducting a peaceful election and urged them to shun activism in favor of negotiation and dialogue. She encouraged the new leadership to aim to leave a positive mark. These remarks were echoed by the Dean of Students, Charles Obiero. The Legal Officer outlined the crucial role that student leadership plays in assisting and influencing university management's decisions on student affairs, including student welfare, academic matters, examinations, and national issues.
In his remarks, the incoming KAFUSA President Munialo said he would push for the establishment of an incubation center to encourage and support student ideas into thriving business solutions.
