In a testimony to its commitment to community welfare, Kaimosi Friends University joined forces with Jumuia Hospital among other partners to host a transformative two-day medical camp. Held on the 14th and 15th of March, 2024, this initiative aimed to provide vital healthcare services to the residents of Kaimosi Complex and its surrounding areas within Vihiga County.
The medical camp, a cornerstone of KAFU's Corporate Social Responsibility endeavors, underscores the university's dedication to serving the public good. This initiative not only aligns with the university's overarching mission but also fulfills a vital performance contracting target outlined by the University Council for the academic year 2023/2024.
A diverse range of medical services was on offer at the camp, catering to the varied healthcare needs of the community. From orthopedic and urology services to optical examinations and health education, the camp provided a holistic approach to wellness. Notably, the inclusion of health education sessions and blood donation drive underscored KAFU's commitment to empowering individuals with the knowledge needed to lead healthier lives beyond the camp's duration.
The success of the medical camp was greatly facilitated by the collaborative efforts of various partners, including Jumuia Hospital as the host, Community Pathways Africa, Rays of Care Kenya, Rotary Club, National Council of Churches of Kenya, and KAFU. These partners, driven by their commitment to healthcare and service, played a central role in delivering comprehensive consultation and care to over 1000 patients for the two days.
Guided by the expertise of Dr. Vincent Okenwa, the Dean of the School of Health Sciences and an esteemed Optometrist, the KAFU students actively participated in patient examinations, provided essential treatments, and facilitated referrals as necessary. Their passion for healthcare and dedication to service were instrumental in ensuring the success of the medical camp.
Additionally, the event saw the presence of other key figures from KAFU, including Dr. Fozia, Quality Assurance and Management Systems Director, Dr. Okonda, serving as the UASU Chairman, and Dr. Aunga, responsible for Corporate Affairs, among other officers. Their collective contributions and support further strengthened the impact of the medical outreach initiative, leaving a lasting positive impression on the community
The School of Health Sciences stands as a beacon of excellence within KAFU, offering specialized degrees tailored to meet the evolving demands of the healthcare sector. Through programs such as the Bachelor of Science in Nursing and the Bachelor of Science in Clinical Medicine, Surgery, and Community Health (BSC-CMSCH), as well as the Bachelor of Science in Optometry and Vision Sciences, the school equips students with the skills and knowledge needed to make meaningful contributions to healthcare delivery.
