Kaimosi Friends University became the center of fire safety and disaster preparedness education as students, staff, and various campus organizations gathered for a day of intensive training led by LESHOC Enterprises.

The training, which took place on the university’s sprawling grounds, aimed to equip participants with essential skills to respond to fire outbreaks and disaster situations effectively. LESHOC Enterprises, a company contracted by the university to supply fire extinguishers, emergency response and safety training provider, facilitated the day-long session.

“The event has active seen active participation from the university community, including students from various schools, members of the St. John Ambulance, and the KAFU Scouts Association, who worked together in a collaborative training,” said Mr. Paul Kokonya an officer in charge of Security.

The training covered a wide range of topics, from fire safety fundamentals to disaster response procedures. The training began with practical demonstrations on fire prevention and the use of fire extinguishers. Participants learned the critical for extinguishing small fires, a skill they immediately put to the test as they handled fire extinguishers under the supervision of LESHOC trainers.

“The primary goal today is to ensure that every participant knows what to do in the event of a fire, it’s not just about fighting the fire, but preventing it and responding to emergencies quickly and safely,” said Mr. Ben Marimbe, a lead instructor at LESHOC Enterprises.

The participants also took part in larger-scale firefighting drills, where they worked together to control and extinguish simulated blazes using fire extinguishers and other firefighting equipment.

“We did not only learn about the fire safety portion, we have also been trained on disaster preparedness focusing on responding to fire disasters.” Said Bridan Wandera the chairman of St. Johns Ambulance.
In a closing debrief, Mr. Marimbe emphasized the broader purpose of carrying out training at Kaimosi Friends University is to create a community that is well trained and ready to face any emergency.

The event concluded with a reflection on the lessons learned, and participants expressed a strong sense of unity and readiness to handle emergencies. Students, staff, and volunteers from the St. John Ambulance and KAFU Scouts left the session with a renewed commitment to ensuring the safety of the campus community.

“The training today has given us insights on significant steps toward ensuring the safety and well-being of everyone at Kaimosi Friends University,. Our facilitators have reinforced the importance of disaster preparedness in everyday life.” Said Ronald Mugunda the Chairman of KAFU Scouts Association.
