In a remarkable debut at the Kenya Universities Performing Arts Festival, Kaimosi Friends University astounded the audience and its counterparts alike with an impressive showcase of talent and dedication. Hosted at the Technical University of Mombasa from the 17th to the 22nd of March 2024, the festival, under the auspices of the Ministry of Education, State Department for Higher Education and Research, witnessed participation from over 27 universities across the nation, featuring more than 139 classes in music, dance, and elocution.
Despite it being their first appearance, KAFU did not shy away from the limelight, diving headfirst into the competition with fervor. KAFU presented a series of performances including four brass band classes, two choral verses, and six solo verses. Their efforts did not go unnoticed as they clinched an impressive array of accolades, securing four trophies and certificates across various categories.
However, the crowning moment of triumph came when KAFU was bestowed with the honor of being declared the best in the rendition of the East African Anthem. Their stellar performance not only earned them recognition but also the prestigious opportunity to showcase their talent at the gala event held on the 24th of March 2024 at the State House.
The triumphant team was expertly led by Dr. Mary Malenya, KAFU's Choir and Band Coordinator, along with the invaluable support of Dr. Frederick Monanti, the Careers Master, and Mr. Orieddoh, the Assistant Choir and Band Coordinator. Their dedication and expertise proved instrumental in shaping the success of KAFU's debut performance on such a grand stage.
Upon their return, the KAFU team was warmly welcomed with jubilation by the university community, with Acting Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mwita leading the accolades. Prof. Mwita commended the team for their selflessness and remarkable achievement, highlighting their contribution in placing KAFU among the esteemed giants of the performing arts scene. He further encouraged the team to continue striving for excellence, setting their sights on even greater triumphs in the upcoming festivals.
In their remarkable journey from newcomers to champions, KAFU has not only showcased their immense talent but also exemplified the spirit of perseverance and dedication that defines the essence of performing arts. As they continue to captivate audiences and inspire future generations, KAFU stands as a beacon of excellence in Kenya's vibrant cultural landscape.
