On March 7, 2024, the newly appointed Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter N. Mwita, engaged with the student body in an inaugural meet-and-greet session, delivering an address and facilitating a discussion on student welfare. This event aimed to foster a deeper rapport beyond the confines of the student governing council.

The meeting, held at the University’s Assembly Hall, served as a platform for the university administration to join students in mourning and coordinating preparations for the sendoff of Collins Odiambo, a First-Year Education student who tragically passed away following an accident near the University. His untimely demise deeply affected the student fraternity, prompting calls for government intervention to enhance the safety of the road leading to the Kaimosi education complex, benefiting over 20,000 learners and staff.

During the meeting, the VC actively listened to students' concerns and suggestions aimed at enhancing their campus experience. In his remarks, Prof. Mwita pledged to advocate for external improvements such as the expansion and tarmacking of the feeder road, as well as bolstering security measures. Furthermore, he assured the students that the University Management would address internal issues impacting their welfare. He encouraged the student governing body to channel welfare concerns through proposals to the Management Board and Senate for consideration.

Present at the meeting were members of the University Management, the dean of students, deans of schools and section heads responsible for key student interactions.

This collaborative engagement between the Acting Vice Chancellor and the student body reflects the university's commitment to nurturing a conducive environment for learning and growth. It underscores a shared dedication to addressing challenges and fostering positive change within the Kaimosi Friends University community.
