Kaimosi Friends University and Vihiga County Referral Hospital Forge Collaborative Partnership for Health Sciences Training and Research

In a significant development for the field of healthcare education and research, Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) and Vihiga County Referral Hospital came together on November 3, 2023, to discuss and initiate the process of establishing a formal Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The MOU aims to foster collaboration between these institutions, providing a platform for joint efforts in training and research for the School of Health Sciences (SOHES) at KAFU,

KAFU was capably represented by Prof. Julius Kipkemboi, who serves as the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic and Student Affairs, who brought his wealth of experience and academic leadership to the table. Dr. Caroline Mulinya, the Director of Linkages, contributed her expertise in forging meaningful connections and partnerships. Dr. Ann Asiko, as the Head of the Department of Nursing, brought her deep insights into the nursing and healthcare field. On the Vihiga County Referral Hospital side, the delegation was led by Dr. Songole the Chair of the County Referral Hospital Board, whose leadership and vision played a pivotal role in this collaborative endeavor. Accompanied by the Medical Superintendent, Dr. Tsimbulu, the Chief Nursing officer and the Hospital Administrator, the hospital's representation was well-rounded, combining clinical expertise and administrative acumen. Together, this diverse and accomplished group of individuals laid the foundation for what promises to be an exciting and transformative partnership between academia and healthcare, with the potential to benefit not only the institutions involved but the broader community they serve.

Prof. Julius Kipkemboi, gave a presentation on behalf of the Acting Vice Chancellor of KAFU, Prof Ogodo,M.J Nandi, emphasizing the immense potential of this partnership. He noted that the collaboration between the University and the Vihiga County Referral Hospital will have far-reaching benefits for both institutions, particularly for the students and staff in the School of Health Sciences (SOHES).This partnership is expected to promote opportunities for training, research and innovation leading to advancements in healthcare services and academic excellence.
