KUPAA

In a dazzling display of artistic prowess and boundless enthusiasm, Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) recently played host to the prestigious Kenya Universities Performing Arts Association (KUPAA) festival. The event brought together the crème de la crème of universities from the Western and Nyanza Regions, creating a symphony of talents that painted the campus in a vibrant kaleidoscope of colors and performances.

A total of nine esteemed universities graced the occasion, each bringing their unique blend of artistry and creativity. Among them were Maseno University, Uzima University, KCA, GLUK, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), Kibabii University, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology, and of course, the gracious hosts, KAFU.

The diverse array of categories in which the universities competed included English play, spoken word, mime, modern dance, French solo verse, stand-up comedy, narrative, cultural creative dance, puppetry, choral verse, poem, street dance, and several others

The event kicked off in grand style, as the talented students converged to celebrate their passion for the performing arts. Dr. Nyambane, the KAFU drama patron, had the honor of officially inaugurating the event. With his characteristic warmth and charisma, he encouraged the students to balance their artistic pursuits with their academic endeavors. He emphasized that the harmonious union of talent and education would be the key to unlocking their lifelong dreams. He spoke on behalf of KAFU's Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ogodo. M. J, Nandi who was unable to attend due to prior commitments.

The ensuing weekend was nothing short of spectacular, as the universities put on an electrifying showcase of talent in various artistic domains. The festivities spanned two glorious days, from Friday, the 20th of October to Saturday, the 21st of October, 2023, and during this time, the campus transformed into a hub of creativity and exuberance.

KAFU emerged as a true standout during this extravaganza, claiming the top spot in the English Play category. Their captivating performance left the audience in awe, and the judges were unequivocal in their praise. But KAFU didn't stop there; they also secured the third position in the fiercely competitive modern dance category, leaving a lasting impression with their innovative choreography.

The excitement among the students and the audience was palpable, and the infectious energy that permeated the entire campus was a testament to the immense talent on display.

But the journey is far from over for KAFU. As the victors in the English Play category and the accomplished contenders in modern dance, they are set to represent their region in the national competitions, which will be held in the picturesque town of Nyeri. Their success at the KUPAA festival has not only put KAFU on the map but also set the stage for an exhilarating journey towards further glory.

In this vibrant collision of culture, passion, and creativity, Kaimosi Friends University, through KUPAA, has proven once again that art has the power to unite, inspire, and illuminate our lives. The festival showcased the rich tapestry of talents that adorn our universities, making us all proud to be part of this dynamic community.

As the curtains fall on this colorful chapter of the KUPAA festival, it leaves us eagerly anticipating the next act in Nyeri, where KAFU and the other top performers from other regions will paint the stage with even more vivid and captivating performances. We can't wait to see what these talented students will bring to the national stage, as they continue their journey in the world of performing arts.
