Dr Emmanuel Okenwa-Vincent is a Public Health Optometrist, with bias in the health system’s planning and management. He earned a Ph.D. in Optometry from the University of KwaZulu-Natal in South Africa and a Master’s in Global Bioethics from Anahuac University, Mexico – through a UNESCO scholarship. He is currently a senior lecturer in the Department of Optometry and Vision Science, in the School of Health Sciences, where he is also the dean of the school, at Kaimosi Friends University, Kenya. He has over 10 years of experience as a lead- and a co-consultant on various health-related projects in Kenya. He was also an academic and public health consultant for the Brien Holden Vision Institute (Public Health Division), South Africa, and ValueImpact Consultants, Kenya. He was a co-investigator/consultant in various community-based eye health programs, such as the East African child eye health projects tagged, “seeing is believing”, where he participated as a capacity development expert in pediatric refraction and low vision care for in-service eye health workers. In addition, he has been a lead consultant in the development of systems for mid-level eye health services and training, including eye health-related curricular development and reviews for Kenya Medical Training College and also for the Kenya Coast National Polytechnic. Furthermore, he had been a lead consultant for eye health organizations like CBM, Fred Hollow’s Foundation, Sightsavers, and COECSA. He has research interests in public health, clinical and research ethics, and the economics of eye health in children and adolescents with uncorrected refractive errors and low vision.
