In a clear push for heightened standards, Kaimosi Friends University has launched a three-day, intensive leadership workshop at Tom Mboya Labour College, directly targeting responsible student governance, financial accountability, and robust institutional leadership.
This proactive move, spearheaded by the Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mwita, is aimed at training student leaders on critical areas like financial procedures, procurement laws, and disciplinary protocols, signaling a strong commitment to campus integrity.
Setting the stage for change: Vice Chancellor Prof. Mwita challenges KAFU student leaders to embrace integrity and responsibility in their opening remarks at the intensive leadership training.
The workshop was officially opened by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Mwita, and is being facilitated by Prof. Henry Embeywa. Present in the workshop also were the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academics and Student Affairs, Prof. Amimo; the Dean of Students, Dr. Were; and the In-charge sports Mr. Sandagi.
In his keynote address, Prof. Mwita underscored the vital role of student leadership in shaping future national and global leaders. He emphasized the importance of responsibility, urging the leaders to be diligent in representing student interests.
“You are not merely student leaders at Kaimosi Friends University, but a reflection of the government and the university’s governance system, I hope that this training would help mould you into impactful agents of change within the university.,” he stated.
Taking it all in: KAFU student representatives actively participate in the leadership workshop, equipping themselves with essential tools for integrity and transparency.
Prof. Mwita emphasized the significance of budgeting and forward planning, advising the student leaders to adhere strictly to procurement procedures. He concluded his remarks by encouraging the student leaders to uphold accountability, transparency, and integrity in all their leadership responsibilities.
In his remarks, Prof. Amimo highlighted the critical need for student leaders to strike a healthy balance between academics and leadership roles. He reiterated that while leadership provides invaluable experience, academic success remains the primary mandate.

“The foundation upon which your future is built lies in what you do in class, group discussions, laboratories, and field practice. I urge you to focus on your studies and don’t lose sight of your academic goals,” said Prof. Amimo.
Prof. Amimo further noted that leadership is a powerful platform for personal growth and skill acquisition. He affirmed the university management’s commitment to supporting student leaders through ongoing mentorship programmes.
The workshop is designed to equip student leaders with essential skills and knowledge across various areas of leadership. Key areas of focus of the training workshop includes understanding KAFU studentship, Qualities of a good leader, Balancing academics and leadership, Financial procedures and budgeting, Insights into student leadership and responsibilities, Student support programmes and emotional intelligence among other topics.
