Safety First: Kaimosi Friends University's Boosts Workplace Safety Efforts

Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) today embarked on a significant initiative to fortify its institutional safety framework, commencing a four-day intensive training workshop for its Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Committee at the Tom Mboya Labour College. Chaired by Dr. Loice Mureithi, the training underscores KAFU's commitment to fostering a secure and healthy work environment for its staff.

The workshop, officially opened by Prof. Kelvin Omieno on behalf of Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mwita, saw the presence of Ms. Everlyne Murey, the County Occupational Safety and Health Officer, who is facilitating the crucial sessions.

In his opening remarks, Prof. Omieno commended the Occupational Health and Safety Committee for their dedication in organizing the timely and commendable training. He emphasized that the initiative directly aligns with KAFU's strategic plan to enhance institutional capacity and strengthen governance systems.

"By building awareness and equipping our staff with knowledge on occupational safety, you are directly contributing to the university's goal," Said Prof. Omieno.

Prof. Omieno highlighted the importance of a safe and conducive work environment, regulatory compliance, and human capital development. He urged participants to maximize the benefits of the training for both institutional and personal growth.

Dr. Loice Mureithi, in her address, expressed gratitude to the university management for their unwavering support. She emphasised that enhanced productivity at KAFU is inextricably linked to a safe work environment and healthy staff. The training, she noted, is pivotal in implementing and strengthening safety and health measures, ultimately leading to improved productivity.

The comprehensive curriculum for the workshop includes critical topics such as the Occupational Safety and Health Act 2007, safety and health management systems, occupational first aid, accident investigation, chemical safety, occupational diseases, and the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

The Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Committee members actively participate in the intensive training workshop at Tom Mboya Labour College. Their focused engagement underscores KAFU's commitment to building a safer and healthier workplace for its entire staff.

Other vital areas cover fire safety, risk assessment, workplace inspection, and occupational stress and drug abuse management, aiming to cultivate a proactive and safety-conscious institutional culture at KAFU.
