Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) is proud to announce that Dr.Victor Shikuku, a distinguished researcher and academic at the University, in collaboration with other research scientists from Machakos University — Dr. Veronica Okello and Dr. E. Ndunda — have successfully secured funding under the The World Academy of Sciences for the Advancement of Science in developing countries (TWAS) Research Grants Programme in Basic Sciences

This prestigious grant, valued at 47,000 USD for a duration of 24 months, is awarded to support promising high-level research projects in biology, chemistry, mathematics, and physics, particularly in science and technology (S&T)-lagging countries as identified by TWASThe grant will be instrumental in:

  • Advancing research activities in chemistry, with a focus on “biosorption isotherms, kinetics and thermodynamics of fluoride and arsenic on nano-enabled hydrochar and Fe-based metal organic framework hydrochar”
  • Equipping the host institution’s laboratories with state-of-the-art equipment to enhance research capabilities.
  • Supporting Master of Science (MSc.) students in pursuing their studies and contributing to impactful research.

This milestone highlights KAFU's growing prominence in the global academic and research community and its commitment to excellence in the basic sciences. Speaking on the award, Dr. Shikuku expressed his gratitude and emphasized the importance of collaborative research in solving real-world problems and laboratory research capacity building while building capacity for the next generation of scientists.

This achievement underscores KAFU's dedication to fostering innovation and sustainable development through strategic partnerships and impactful research. Congratulations to Dr. Shikuku and his collaborators for this remarkable accomplishment!
