Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU), through the Kenya Universities Performing Arts Association (KUPAA), has once again showcased its exceptional talent in performing arts during the National Drama Extravaganza held at Egerton University in Nakuru County. This prestigious event, which ran from November 11th to 16th, 2024, brought together over 30 universities across the country, featuring top-tier artistic performances and a national beauty pageant staged by several institutions.

KAFU presented three artistic compositions, emerging as a wellspring of talent and creativity. The university clinched First Runners-Up in the highly competitive Swahili Play category, while its English play, titled "A Tattered Gown," secured Second Runners-Up. Additionally, KAFU earned Third Place in the fiercely contested Mash-Up category. The vibrant enthusiasm displayed by both students and audiences underscored the high level of talent and dedication nurtured at KAFU.

In addition to its artistic success, Kaimosi Friends University demonstrated its commitment to inclusivity by actively participating in the 2nd Edition of Open Tournaments for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The event, hosted by Maseno University under the Kenya University Sports Federation (Western Conference), took place on November 16th and 17th, 2024.

This two-day annual event celebrated and empowered students with disabilities, attracting close to 100 participants from seven universities: Maseno University, Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST), Kibabii University, Rongo University, Kisii University, Kabianga University, and Kaimosi Friends University.

The games showcased remarkable talent, resilience, and the unifying power of sports, featuring activities such as chess, scrabble, goalball, sitting volleyball, table tennis, and athletics. Notable performances from KAFU participants included Gilbert Rono: Second place in the 100m race and Violet Jepkemboi: First place in both the 100m and 60m races. These achievements highlight the dedication of KAFU athletes and the supportive environment fostered by the university.

As the Games concluded, organizers and stakeholders emphasized the importance of further supporting PWD students to maximize their potential in sports and beyond. Provision of specialized sports equipment to facilitate participation and enhance performance was a key recommendation. Providing PWD students with more opportunities to compete at higher levels can raise a sense of belonging and achievement resulting to increased exposure. The organizers further emphasized on more sensitization programs to encourage more PWD students to join sports. That can help boost their confidence, improve their mental health, and integrate them more deeply into the university community

The event highlighted the transformative role of sports as a tool for inclusion and empowerment. As preparations for the next edition begin, the focus remains on breaking barriers and creating more opportunities for students with disabilities across Kenya. KAFU’s outstanding achievements in performing arts and inclusive sports underscore its dedication to holistic education, making it a beacon of talent and inclusivity in the country.
