Kaimosi Friends University organized a three-day workshop at the Goshen Hotel in Eldoret from October 12th to 14th, 2024. This was in a bid to nurture stronger collaboration between the University Management and Students’ Governing Council (KAFUSA SGC) for enhanced delivery of quality services to students. Top management officials, including the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter N. Mwita, and both Deputy Vice Chancellors, were present.

In his address, Prof. Mwita emphasized the importance of the recently launched 2023-2027 University Strategic Plan, designed to align the University's vision with contemporary societal trends. He highlighted that the Strategic Plan is geared towards creating an environment that encourages teaching, research, innovation and learning for problem-solving to accelerate community development.

"Our Management is committed to introducing more market-driven courses and is revitalizing its Professional Courses. Excellence must be our aspiration, with students at the core of everything we do," he stated. Additionally, Prof. Mwita said that Management is exploring development of an asset management start-up app to help the university in addressing critical issues like drug and alcohol abuse amongst students.

Prof. Mwita also challenged the KAFUSA SGC leaders to develop a clear vision, accompanied by detailed roadmaps that prioritize student-centered development to enhance their engagement for improved academic performance. Noting that universities across the world face increasing expectations not only to support students’ academic achievements, but also to enrich their comprehensive well-being, he stressed the importance of effective student affairs management.

The three-day workshop’s peak was the attendance of Aldai Constituency Member of Parliament and Vice Chairperson of the Parliamentary Trade Committee, Hon. Kitany Marianne. Addressing participants during the event, she expressed her passion and support for quality education, particularly in addressing the challenges faced by the girl child, which she cited as her key motivating factor.

"Education is the greatest equalizer in society," Hon. Kitany remarked, adding that she was willing to visit KAFU to deliver a guest lecture to students to encourage them to excel academically. She highlighted the shrinking job market across the globe and urged students to embrace creativity, drawing parallels with successful innovators like Bill Gates and Steve Jobs. She underscored the role of sports in student development, particularly athletics, suggesting the creation of sports programs within the university’s curriculum.

During the workshop, Hon. Kitany also announced her collaboration with the University Management to explore the establishment of a Kaimosi Friends University satellite campus in Kobujoi. She emphasized that such a development would bring significant socio-economic benefits to the region, providing access to education, creating business opportunities, and fostering community cohesion. She expressed hope that this would help mitigate the ethnic post-election violence that has historically affected the area.
