On August 27, 2024, Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU), in collaboration with its partners, planted 3,200 tree seedlings as part of its ambitious goal to plant 130,000 trees by the end of the year. This effort supports President Ruto's bold initiative to plant 15 billion trees by 2032, enhancing environmental conservation across Kenya.
The tree-planting event saw participation from KAFU staff, students from Kaimosi Demonstration School, and representatives from several key organizations including the National Industrial Training Authority (NITA), Kenya Medical Training College (KMTC), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Office of the County Commissioner of Vihiga. This collective effort underscores a shared commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability.
Prof. Maurice Amadalo, Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration, Planning, and Development, welcomed the attendees on behalf of the Vice Chancellor. In his address, Prof. Amadalo celebrated the university's rich history and its long-standing commitment to environmental conservation. He also encouraged the attendees to explore career advancement opportunities at KAFU, which aims to position itself as a world-class institution.
Kaimosi Friends University is dedicated to its goal of planting 130,000 trees and has actively involved local schools in Kaimosi, particularly during the National Elimu Tree Planting Days. The university remains eager to continue collaborating with various organizations to support the national tree-planting agenda.
During the event, KAFU received 2,500 indigenous tree seedlings from NITA, 200 from KMTC, and 500 from the Kenya Forestry Research Institute (KEFRI).
In addition to its tree-planting efforts, NITA and the State Department of Diaspora Affairs are currently conducting a diaspora job fair sensitization campaign in the Western Region. This initiative aims to educate citizens about employment opportunities abroad and provide guidance on the application process. Kaimosi Friends University is proud to partner with these organizations in both environmental initiatives and in raising awareness about opportunities available locally and internationally.
