Dr. Jemimah Onsare who led the delegation underscored the critical role of universities in driving Kenya's development agenda. She emphasized that this exercise is a crucial step towards bolstering governance and management practices within public universities. She further observed that many public universities are grappling with financial challenges often stemming from decisions not anchored on factual data.

“This exercise aims to address the key challenges faced by public universities and to generate tangible, concrete reports that can be presented at higher levels to support resource mobilization efforts” Dr. Onsare said.

She also highlighted that a key objective of the exercise is to conduct a comprehensive evaluation to address challenges related to academic infrastructure, capital projects, general operations and to provide advisory support to overcoming challenges faced by KAFU as a young growing institution.

Present in the meeting were members of the University Management Board and the outgoing Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Julius Kipkemboi who underscored the importance of the monitoring and evaluation exercise. He emphasized the need for affirmative action in the sector noting that limited resources for research and innovation in higher learning institutions remains a major concern.
