The 3rd Kaimosi Friends University Students Association (KAFUSA) Governing Council has been inaugurated today, with Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter N. Mwita and electoral officials applauding the institution’s strides in democratic governance. The 20-member council, elected on February 13th, 2025, took their oath of office at a ceremony marked by calls for unity, accountability, and ethical leadership.

The new KAFUSA Chairperson is third-year Mathematics and Statistics student Xavier Elumbe. Other officials include Lucy Mbugua as Vice Chairperson, Letiktik Masaya as Secretary General, Boniface Mogesi as Academic Secretary, Kelvin Kinuthia as Finance Secretary, John Simiyu as Games, Sports, and Entertainment Secretary, Euphine Khaemba as Gender and Special Interest Secretary, and Rabson Anada Makokha as Graduate School Representative. Additionally, representatives for various schools and halls of residence are members of the council.

The ceremony was presided over by Advocate Linda Omenya.

Reflecting on the electoral process, Prof. Mwita acknowledged the competitive nature of the polls amid a student population projected to reach 6,000 by September 2025. Echoing this sentiment, Dr. Victor Shikuku, Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, highlighted the election’s “large voter turnout and heavy competition” as hallmarks of evolving student leadership. “These elections demonstrated not only enthusiasm but also the maturity of our democratic structures,” Dr. Shikuku remarked.

While commending the peaceful conclusion of the elections, Prof. Mwita condemned isolated incidents of violence and vandalism during campaigns, urging students to “prioritize dialogue over division.” He emphasized that democracy thrives in “respect and order,” not chaos—a message reinforced by Dr. Shikuku’s praise for electoral teams and observers who ensured transparency.

The Vice Chancellor framed KAFU’s diversity as a national strength, urging the new council to act as “bridges between communities” and uphold inclusivity. Quoting the African proverb, “If you want to go far, go together,” he challenged leaders to amplify every student’s voice.

Prof. Mwita also shared personal leadership lessons, stressing collaboration and ethical governance. “Leadership is a contract of trust,” he said, advising the council to leverage the university’s open-door policy for constructive problem-solving. He further highlighted the career value of student leadership, citing alumni excelling in national and global roles.

Dr. Shikuku’s remarks underscored the electoral commission’s commitment to credible processes, aligning with the VC’s call for accountability. Prof. Mwita pledged administrative partnership to advance academic excellence, mental health support, and infrastructure, while reminding leaders to “focus on solutions, not problems.”

Closing with Nelson Mandela’s wisdom on making a difference in others’ lives, the Vice Chancellor charged the council to lead with humility. The ceremony honored the outgoing council’s legacy and set high expectations for the new team, with the university community anticipating collaborative progress.

Congratulations to the newly sworn-in leaders!
