It was pomp and colour as the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter N. Mwita welcomed first year students for the 2024 cohort to Kaimosi Friends University and ushered them into the beginning of their University academic journey in matriculation ceremony held on Friday 6 September, 2024 at the University’s grounds.
Addressing students and staff during the ceremony, Prof. Mwita hailed the 1918 students admitted and distributed across various programmes taught by the University. He celebrated them and further congratulated them for making it to the University.
The Vice Chancellor emphasized KAFU’s commitment in nurturing academic, professional and individual growth to its students. He further underscored KAFU’s renowned academics, infrastructure, and diverse market driven programmes.
Prof. Mwita urged the new students to take advantage of the opportunities available at the University while embracing the challenges that may arise along the way for all round development.“I encourage you to be vibrant and focused on this path of your academic journey and challenge you to participate in research and innovation opportunities available at the University so as to be part of solution providers to societal challenges, as well as greater citizens of this nation and beyond.” he said.
The Acting Vice Chancellor further urged the students to be cognizant of the University social life and the risks and opportunities that accompany it. “KAFU is a lively community with a vibrant culture that will enrich your lives and grant you opportunities to network throughout your academic journey. I ask you all to be loyal to the University’s code of conduct and ethics and abide by the rules and regulations during your 4 or 5 years of study. The oath you have just taken enjoins you to be of good character and obedient to the authority of this University.” he said.
Prof. Mwita further noted that a majority of the new students have been successfully banded by the University Funding Board. He informed that the University has established a help desk to assist those students who have not been banded or are yet to apply for scholarships and loans. The staff assigned to this role will also assist students in making appeals whenever need arises and in making follow up on finalization of the funding process.
Speaking during the occasion, Prof. Julius Kipkemboi, the Acting Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic, Student Affairs and Research challenged the new students to begin their academic journey with focus and set goals. He urged them to dedicate themselves to hard work, and be in control of both their academic and social lives in preparation to be part of a global workforce in future. He promised that the entire faculty team within his Division is well prepared to walk the journey with the new students, in mentoring and preparing them in their future careers.
On his part the Acting Deputy Vice Chancellor, Administration, Finance, Planning and Development (AFP&D), Prof. Maurice M. Amadalo reminded the freshmen and women to take the advisory given to them by various members of the University and County Security team who had addressed students prior to the matriculation ceremony.
The matriculation ceremony ended in recognition of students who either come from the furthest or closest distance to the University.
The entire university community welcomes all the first year students on board and look forward to witnessing their progression and accomplishments throughout their academic journey in KAFU.
