Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) is charting a new course under the leadership of Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter N. Mwita. In an interactive meeting and luncheon with faculty and staff on Thursday 1 st August 2024, Prof. Mwita outlined a vision for the University’s future, centered on growth, innovation, and community engagement.

Appointed in February 2024, Prof. Mwita has prioritized open communication and collaboration. The meeting provided a platform for staff to share concerns and ideas, fostering a sense of shared ownership in the university's journey.

With a focus on productivity and a world-class status, Prof. Mwita highlighted KAFU’s potential to leverage its expansive campus and strategic location. The university is poised for significant expansion, with an anticipated student enrollment of over 6,600 in September.

Building on the recent launch of the Strategic Plan 2023-2027 and the successful completion of the 2023/24 academic year, Prof. Mwita emphasized the importance of reviewing academic programs to align with emerging trends and student needs. He called for a focus on niche programs that equip students with in-demand skills.

To enhance KAFU's academic reputation, Prof. Mwita encouraged faculty to engage in cutting-edge multidisciplinary research. By securing grants and fostering innovation, the university aims to address contemporary challenges and position itself as a leader in its field.

Demonstrating a commitment to environmental stewardship, KAFU is partnering with the County Government of Vihiga to establish a climate change action center of excellence. The university also plans to contribute to Kenya's green agenda by planting 130,000 trees.

Prof. Mwita emphasized the importance of integrating technology into teaching, research, and administration to boost productivity. By fostering a collaborative culture and implementing clear performance metrics, the University aims to create a high-performing environment.

The Acting Vice Chancellor also pledged to prioritize staff welfare, recognizing that a satisfied and engaged workforce is essential for achieving the university goals. These commitments came as staff pressed for improved working conditions.

As KAFU embarks on this new chapter, the University Council and Management Board are inspiring confidence in its ability to achieve its vision of becoming a world-class institution that makes a positive impact on society.
