Cheptulu OCS addressing students befote the planting of trees

On May 24, 2024, Kaimosi Friends University’s acting vice chancellor, Prof. Peter Mwita, led the university's Environment Club and Kaimosi Junior Secondary School in a successful tree planting exercise on the university grounds. Guided by the head teacher and several teachers, the students planted approximately 1,500 trees, marking a significant contribution to environmental conservation efforts.

The event also saw active participation from Cheptulu Police Station, with OCS Lawi Ngetich and his officers leading by example in this noble activity. This initiative is part of Kaimosi Friends University's ambitious goal to plant 130,000 trees in support of President William Ruto’s climate conservation agenda. The tree planting exercise will continue every Friday, involving different schools each week, until the target is achieved.

Following the tree planting, Prof. Mwita, accompanied by the acting Deputy Vice Chancellors Prof. Amadalo (DVC AF&D) and Prof. Kipkemboi (DVC ASA&R), addressed the students alongside the head teacher, Mr. John Mussusi, and other teachers. Prof. Mwita expressed his gratitude to Mr. Mussusi for organizing the students' participation and highlighted the importance of tree planting in combating soil erosion and climate change. He encouraged the students to excel academically and consider Kaimosi Friends University as their future institution of higher learning.

Prof. Kipkemboi, in his remarks, thanked the students for their participation and emphasized the role of trees in reducing the impact of raindrops on the soil. He urged the students to study diligently to achieve the grades necessary for university admission. Prof. Amadalo also praised the teachers and students for their commitment to the tree planting initiative, stated the importance of trees in maintaining biodiversity, and encouraged the students to be proactive in their studies.

Mr. John Mussusi, head teacher of Kaimosi Junior Secondary School, expressed his gratitude to the Vice Chancellor for including their school in the university’s tree-planting vision. He acknowledged the importance of environmental sensitivity and proposed increased collaboration to ensure a harmonious and cohesive relationship between the two institutions.

OCS Mr. Lawi Ngetich commended both institutions for their efforts in promoting patriotism through environmental conservation. He thanked the Vice Chancellor for inviting the police force to participate and highlighted the positive environmental impact of such initiatives. Mr. Ngetich assured him of his continued support for security matters in the Kaimosi area.

This event marks the second Friday of the ongoing tree planting campaign, reflecting the community's commitment to environmental stewardship and education. The event concluded with a photo session, capturing the spirit of the day.
