THE SECOND KAFUSA ELECTIONS

The Kaimosi Friends University Students Association (KAFUSA) elections took place on February 19th and 20th, 2024, as students cast their votes to determine the occupants of 18 crucial positions. These contested roles spanned across various schools, including the School of Business and Economics (SOBE), School of Science (SOSCI), School of Health Sciences (SOHES), School of Information Technology (SCIT), and the School of Education and Social Sciences (SESS).

Two major coalitions, Kaimosi Super Alliance (KASA) and Kaimosi Comrade Party (KCP), were at the forefront of the election battle. The Academic and non-academic staff officials, under the leadership of Dr. Amos Wanjara, chaired the proceedings, with support from officials of the Vihiga Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).

The election results reflected a decisive victory for KASA, securing 15 out of the 18 seats, while KCP claimed 3 positions. The executive positions, including the presidency held by Jairus Maasi Wandabwa, secretary general Peter Ochieng Onyango, academic secretary Joseph Arikon, finance secretary Vickson Ouma, and games, sports, and entertainment overseen by Biketi Alex, were all dominated by the KASA coalition.

In addition to the executive roles, other positions were shared as follows: Naibei Nickson emerged as the postgraduate representative, Hellen Awuor Odhiambo secured the position of female non-resident representative, and Odiwour Sylvester claimed the male non-resident representative post. Esther Muthoni and Alex Juma took the roles of female and male resident representatives, respectively.

Further, Wafula Simiyu represented SESS males, Lawrence Muriithi became the SESS special interest representative, Irine Mary stood as the SESS female representative, Masaya assumed the role of SOHES representative, Opwondo Wilberforce took charge as SCIT representative, Mumanyi Boniface secured the position of SOSCI representative, and SOBE male and female representatives were Andako Kennedy and Veronicah Awour, respectively.

During the announcement of the results, the election chair extended gratitude to both coalitions for their cooperative and peaceful conduct throughout the entire campaign period. The outcome signifies a democratic representation of the diverse student body within the university.
