KAFU Debate Team Makes Bold Statement at National Championships

Kaimosi Friends University continues to nurture excellence beyond the classroom, and last week, the Debate Club proved just that at the National Debate Championships. Representing the university with poise and determination, the team impressed judges, peers, and supporters alike.

The delegation consisted of nine students—four debaters, four public speakers, and one judge. From the early rounds to the final stages, the team showcased not only intellectual rigor but also unity and resilience. Though the competition was intense, the KAFU students held their own, gaining valuable experience and further strengthening their skills.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mwita delivers his remarks, commending the KAFU Debate Club for their outstanding representation at the National Debate Championships and reaffirming the university’s commitment to supporting student excellence.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mwita commended the team for representing KAFU so well, both at regional competition held in March at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST) and now at the national level. He remarked that the students had put the name of KAFU on the national map and reassured them of the university’s ongoing support, even expressing openness to backing future national participation.

“You made us proud since the time you went to MMUST for western competition, and now you've taken it a step further by representing KAFU at the national level. To us, you're not just students—you’re the best debaters and public speakers, and we will continue supporting you as you grow.” He said.

Micah Makuto, the chair of Kaimosi Friends Debaters Club noted that the competition was stiff, but emphasized how the team gave their all and left the tournament with a stronger sense of purpose.

“We truly appreciate the support from the Vice Chancellor and the entire University management. From our early preparations to the final round, we had everything we needed. We're even more motivated now to aim for victory in the upcoming competitions.” He said.
