Dr. Caroline Mulinya is a highly accomplished academic and researcher specializing in Climatology and Climate Change. She holds a Ph.D. in Geography (Climatology and Climate Change) from Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology (2017), a Master of Arts in Geography (Climatology) from the University of Nairobi (2006), and a Bachelor of Arts in Education (Geography) from Moi University (1999).
Currently, she serves as a Senior Lecturer in Geography (Climatology and Climate Change) and Director of the Centre of Excellence in Climate Action and Research (CECARE). Previously, she was the Director of Academic Linkages and International Relations at Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU). She has also held positions as a Lecturer and Head of the Geography and Environmental Sciences Department at Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST). Earlier in her career, she worked as a Research Scientist at the Kenya Industrial Research and Development Institute (KIRDI) and as a Research Assistant for IUCN, focusing on socio-economic and indigenous knowledge of Lembus Forest in Eldama Ravine County.
Dr. Mulinya has received prestigious fellowships, including a GEF fellowship for her Master's research on the conservation of Mount Marsabit and two Netherlands Fellowship Programme (NFP) awards for training in climate change and forest-related issues. She is currently a Research Fellow with the African Impact Network Association ARIN and ACTS( African Centre for Research and Policy Studies).
With over 15 years of experience in education, she has mentored and supervised numerous undergraduate and graduate students. She has authored over 20 publications on climate change impacts, adaptation, and mitigation, particularly in agriculture, health, water, and gender. Actively engaged in community-based environmental management and conservation initiatives, she is a member of the Kenya Climate Change Working Group (KCCWG), where she convenes the Science and Negotiations Thematic Group, and the Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE), where she serves as Chairperson for Kakamega County.
