Kaimosi Friends University to Open Kobujoi Campus in Aldai by September 2025

Kaimosi Friends University is set to open a new campus in Kobujoi, Aldai Constituency, following a high-level stakeholders’ engagement held on Friday at Aldai Boys High School. The meeting marked a significant milestone in the institution’s expansion plans, bringing together government officials, education sector leaders, and the local community.

The Chairperson of the University Council, Dr. Bernadette Mungai, commended the progress made so far in actualizing the campus and assured the university of the Council’s full backing.

“Let us walk together with the community to make this dream a reality, the Council is fully committed and we urge the committee implementing the project to maintain focus and timelines.” said Dr. Mungai.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mwita, confirmed that the university Senate has already approved the establishment of the campus, which will begin with an initial enrollment of 48 to 50 students under the School of Education and ICT.

“We have completed working on the Kobujoi Campus profile and we are awaiting inspection by the Commission for University Education (CUE). Already the Senate has approved the start of the campus with student population between 48 to 50 in the School of Education and in ICT,” said Prof. Mwita.

“This is not just a project, it’s a commitment. The government has already allocated Ksh 35 million in the 2025/2026 Financial Year for the development of Kobujoi Campus. We are ready to begin, and we have the support of all the stakeholders,” he added.

The stakeholders’ meeting included senior officials from the university, the Deputy County Commissioner – Nandi South, Sub-County Director of Education, Director of Teachers Service Commission – Nandi South, school boards from Aldai Boys and Ressio Comprehensive, and local community representatives.

Representing the local administration, Mr. David Mbevi, Deputy County Commissioner of Nandi South, reiterated the community’s unwavering support for the initiative. He said the establishment of the campus in Aldai Constituency follows the request by the people of Aldai to HE President William Ruto when he was in Aldai.

“The political and community leadership are fully behind this. The people of Aldai are eager to see the university established here. Public participation has already been conducted in both the primary and secondary schools,” he said.

The committee also discussed coordination challenges between the Ministry of Education’s basic and higher education departments, emphasizing the need for better communication moving forward

Dr. Milton Njuki, a Council Member representing the Principal Secretary the State Department for Higher Education, confirmed the ministry’s alignment with the project.

“We’ve provided strategic recommendations, technical advice, and timelines. The policy rests with the CS, and the Council is implementing on his behalf,” said Dr. Njuki.

All the stakeholders agreed that the Kobujoi Campus will admit its pioneer class in September 2025, with academic programs drawn from the School of Education and ICT.

A group of stakeholders, including university officials, local leaders, and community members, gathered at Aldai Boys High School to deliberate on the establishment of a Kaimosi Friends University campus in Kobujoi. The meeting concluded with a commitment to the new campus, which is set to open in September 2025.

Mr. Elias Cheruiyot, the Principal of Aldai Boys Secondary School representing the Board of Aldai Boys High School, confirmed that the school had officially agreed to host the campus.

“The school residence and administration have accepted the proposal and are ready to cooperate with the university,” said Cheruiyot.

Local leader Mr. Jackson Kebenei affirmed the support of the area Member of Parliament, Hon. Maryanne Kitany.

The meeting concluded with a lunch reception at Kaimosi Friends University and a guided campus tour for the guests.
