A new chapter in student leadership at Kaimosi Friends University began today as the 4th KAFUSA Students Governing Council (2026/2027) was officially sworn into office during a solemn ceremony attended by University leadership, staff and students.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter N. Mwita, was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic, Student Affairs and Research), Prof. Fred Amimo, who conveyed the Vice-Chancellor’s message and formally welcomed the incoming student leaders into office. The oath of office was administered by Advocate of the High Court Emily Kadenyi, marking the official assumption of leadership by the new Council.

Delivering the Vice-Chancellor’s message, Prof. Amimo underscored that the election of the new Council reflected the confidence students have in their leaders and the responsibility that comes with that mandate.
“Your election is a clear demonstration of the trust and confidence that your fellow students have placed in your leadership. You have been chosen to be the voice of the students and to build bridges between the student body and the University administration,” he said.
He also reminded the student leaders that their tenure offers a unique opportunity to leave a lasting legacy through constructive initiatives and respectful engagement with institutional structures.
“Your time in office is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of fellow students. Lead with vision, listen to diverse voices and pursue solutions that strengthen student welfare, academic collaboration and harmony within the University community,” Prof. Amimo added.
Prof. Thomas Kipkurgat, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration, Finance and Planning & Development), congratulated the newly sworn-in leaders, urging the wider student community to support the Council in advancing a progressive and inclusive campus environment.

“Student leadership succeeds when the entire student body works together in unity, discipline and constructive engagement. Support your leaders, participate responsibly in University life and let us all work together to build a cohesive and thriving university community,” Prof. Kipkurgat said.
Dean of Students Dr. Fred Nyambane challenged the new leadership to champion unity and responsive engagement in serving the student community, noting that effective student governance thrives on collaboration and accessibility.
“Student leadership is about service, unity and responsibility. Work together, remain accessible to your colleagues and always pursue dialogue and constructive engagement in addressing student issues,” he advised.

Administering the oath, Advocate Emily Kadenyi reminded the student leaders that the ceremony signified a binding commitment to ethical and accountable service.
“As you take this oath of office, commit yourselves to fairness, inclusivity, accountability and respect for the rules that guide this University. Leadership is a duty to serve others with honor,” she said.
The ceremony was marked by vibrant celebrations and a strong show of support from the student body, with the University Assembly Hall filled to capacity by students who gathered to witness the historic transition in student leadership. Cheers, applause and moments of excitement punctuated the swearing-in as the newly elected Council members took their oath, reflecting the enthusiasm and confidence of students in their leaders and the significance of the occasion in the life of the University.
The ceremony also paid tribute to the outgoing 3rd KAFUSA Council for its achievements in advancing student welfare, including spearheading the acquisition of three student buses and initiating the construction of the Students’ Centre milestones highlighted in the Vice-Chancellor’s message.
