Kaimosi Friends University Showcases Innovation and IP Awareness at Kisii University Research Week

Kaimosi Friends University participated in the inaugural Research and Innovation Week hosted by Kisii University reaffirming its strategic commitment to advancing research, innovation and intellectual property awareness.

Mr. Yohana Mang’ura Obiye receives a medal in recognition of his outstanding innovation during the Research and Innovation Week.

The event, themed “Co-creating Sustainable Future Through Interdisciplinary Research, Green Innovation and Community Impact,” brought together researchers, innovators and exhibitors from diverse institutions to showcase solutions aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Kaimosi Friends University delegation led by Dr. Victor   Shikuku, Director of Research and Innovation alongside Mr. Yohana Obiye and Ms. Dorothy Wafula, demonstrated strong interdisciplinary engagement through innovations spanning Chemistry, Information Technology and Physics.

Mr. Yohana Mang’ura Obiye presents the e-Graduation Platform (iGLMS), highlighting its role in automating graduation processes.

A key highlight of the engagement was a sensitization session on intellectual property (IP) awareness, where participants were urged to adopt proactive IP management practices, including patenting, copyright protection and proper documentation of innovations. The session emphasized intellectual property as a strategic asset in safeguarding research outputs and enhancing commercialization potential.

Notably, a standout innovation was presented by Mr. Yohana Mang’ura Obiye, who showcased the Integrated Graduation Lifecycle Management System (iGLMS), branded as the e-Graduation Platform. The system is a centralized digital solution designed to automate key graduation processes, including clearance verification, invitation management, electronic graduation cards and alumni transition.

Representatives from Kaimosi Friends University keenly follow proceedings during the intellectual property (IP) awareness session.

The Innovation developed in collaboration with Prof. Kelvin Kabeti Omieno, Dr. Emily Mokeira Okwemba and Dr. Victor Odhiambo Shikuku attracted significant attention for its potential to streamline graduation workflows, improve data accuracy and reduce administrative inneficiencies within the higher learning institutions emerged third position in the Information Technology Category, underscoring its technical merit and competitiveness within the innovation landscape.

Building on these engagements, Kaimosi Friends University reiterated its commitment to strengthening research commercialization frameworks and institutional capacity in intellectual property management. The University continues to position itself as a competitive player within Kenya’s evolving research and innovation ecosystem
