In a renewed effort to enhance safety for both students and the surrounding community, Kaimosi Friends University today 26th February, 2026 hosted Nyumba Kumi officials alongside the area security team led by the Assistant County Commissioner.
The forum was led by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mwita, and attended by the Assistant County Commissioner for Shaviringa Division, Lesooni Reimas, as well as the Officer Commanding Station (OCS), Cheptulu Police Station, Lawi Ng’etich. The meeting provided a platform for open dialogue on emerging security concerns affecting both students and residents, while exploring practical solutions through collaborative action.

Speaking during the engagement, Prof. Mwita commended the Nyumba Kumi officials and local security agencies for their continued commitment to maintaining peace and order. He emphasized the importance of strong partnerships between the university and the community, noting that a secure environment is essential for academic excellence and social harmony.
“We value the strong partnership we have with Nyumba Kumi and our security agencies. A secure and peaceful environment is fundamental to academic excellence and community well-being, and we will continue to support grassroots security initiatives that protect both our students and our neighbours,” Said Prof. Mwita.
As part of its support to grassroots security initiatives, the university donated torches to Nyumba Kumi officials to facilitate effective night patrols within the community. The gesture underscores the institution’s commitment to proactive community policing and crime prevention.

The university further outlined plans to sustain such engagements, aimed at strengthening coordination, building capacity and equipping local security teams with the necessary knowledge and skills to address security challenges professionally and promptly.
OCS Lawi Ng’etich urged students to remain law-abiding and cooperate with security agencies, assuring them that adequate measures have been put in place to safeguard their welfare. He encouraged continuous information sharing between students, residents and security officers to deter criminal activities.
“Security is a shared responsibility. We encourage our students and the community to remain vigilant, law-abiding and to share timely information with security officers and Nyumba Kumi officials so that we can prevent crime and respond swiftly to any threats,” he stated.

On his part, Assistant County Commissioner Lesooni Reimas called on Nyumba Kumi officials to work closely with the university management to ensure timely reporting and swift response to security matters.
“The Nyumba Kumi structure plays a vital role in early detection and reporting of security issues. We encourage close coordination with the University management and security agencies to ensure timely action and sustained peace within the community,” he said.
The engagement reaffirmed the shared responsibility between the university, security agencies, and the local community in fostering a safe and conducive environment for learning and development.
On his part, the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic and Student Affairs & Research), Prof. Fred Amimo emphasized the importance of student awareness and responsible citizenship in sustaining campus and community safety.
“Our students are integral members of the surrounding community. We will continue to promote security awareness, responsible conduct and close collaboration with Nyumba Kumi and security agencies to ensure a safe and supportive learning environment,” Said Prof Amimo.
