Students from Humble Backgrounds Benefit as KAFU Strengthens Community Support

Students from humble family backgrounds at Muhudu Friends Secondary School are set to benefit from improved school attendance and renewed motivation following a community outreach initiative led by Kaimosi Friends University.

The initiative, focused specifically on learners who face financial constraints that often limit access to basic necessities such as sanitary towels and personal hygiene products. During the visit, the KAFU delegation distributed sanitary pads, soap and assorted books and items that directly reduce absenteeism and ease the burden on vulnerable households.

Chrispinus Wanjala, Deputy Principal of Muhudu Friends Secondary School, addresses students during the outreach engagement, appreciating the support and encouraging learners to remain focused on their academic goals despite socio-economic challenges.

Leading the delegation, Ag. Director of Corporate Affairs Silas Rugut noted that the University recognizes the real challenges faced by learners from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, observing that financial hardship often affects concentration, attendance and overall academic performance. He explained that initiatives such as this provide practical relief to students while reinforcing the broader role of Kaimosi Friends University in supporting equitable access to education.

School Deputy Principal Mr. Chrispinus Wanjala described the intervention as timely, noting that a significant number of students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and struggle to access basic items such as soap and sanitary products consistently.

“This support will go a long way in assisting our needy students. We are grateful to Kaimosi Friends University for not only thinking about academic success but also the welfare and dignity of our learners,” he said.

Beyond material support, the outreach included mentorship sessions designed to empower students. Reigning Miss KAFU Mitchell Ouma encouraged girls to remain confident and focused on their academic goals, while former Mr. KAFU Ben Soul urged boys to play a supportive role in safeguarding the dignity of their female peers.

“Education is the greatest equalizer in today’s society, take your academics seriously because your classroom effort today determines your opportunities tomorrow. To the girls, uphold menstrual hygiene and never allow your period to limit your dreams or silence your confidence.” She told the students.

Education stakeholders say such targeted interventions are critical in addressing hidden barriers that disproportionately affect students from low-income families. By prioritizing vulnerable learners, KAFU reaffirmed its commitment to equity in education and the protection of young people’s dignity.

For the students of Muhudu Friends Secondary School, the outreach marked more than a donation drive, it was a reaffirmation that their dreams remain valid, supported and within reach.
