The Kaimosi Friends University Scientific and Ethics Review Committee (KAFUSERC) is an independent institutional body established to review, approve, and continuously monitor research proposals involving human participants, ensuring compliance with ethical and scientific standards. Our core mission is to safeguard the dignity, rights, safety, and well-being of participants while fostering high-quality, ethically sound research practices at KAFU and beyond. Operating in alignment with the University’s commitment to excellence, KAFUSERC adheres strictly to the national frameworks set by the National Commission for Science, Technology, and Innovation (NACOSTI) and the National Bioethics Committee (NBC). The Committee is formally mandated to review and approve proposals, ensure compliance with national and international guidelines (including those from the World Health Organization (WHO)), monitor ongoing studies, and provide mentorship and capacity building in ethical conduct. KAFUSERC reviews research across a broad scope—including Health, Social, Environmental, and Educational studies—and requires that all research involving human participants conducted within the University or affiliated institutions must obtain clearance before commencement. The rigorous review process involves the Submission of a complete proposal, Screening and Categorization (exempted, expedited, or full review), a multidisciplinary Ethical and Scientific Evaluation, a formal Decision-Making stage (Approved, Revision Required, or Not Approved), and subsequent Monitoring and Follow-up to ensure sustained ethical compliance..
