On November 25, 2025, Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) successfully conducted a Quality Management System (QMS) Awareness Training Workshop aimed at empowering newly employed support staff. The session, which started at 9:36 AM, included participants from various departments such as transport, examinations, internal audit, ICT, estate management, procurement, and the Centre of Excellence in Climate Change. Continuing support staff were also invited for a refresher, showcasing the university’s commitment to professional development.

The workshop commenced with insightful remarks from Prof. Fred Amimo, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration, Students Affairs, and Research. QMS Procedure Manuals – Prof. Kelvin Omieno
Prof. Omieno, Dean of the School of Computing and Informatics, shared insights into the framework for attaining ISO 9001:2015 certification. He stressed the importance of documented procedures and accountability to maintain consistency and uphold quality standards

SMART Objectives – Dr. Hillan Rono
Dr. Rono, Acting Director of ICT, focused on the establishment of SMART objectives within university departments. He defined SMART criteria (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound) and provided examples aimed at enhancing performance, such as improving student registration efficiency.

Quality Management System – Mr. Nicholas Shabaya
As the In-Charge of the Directorate of Quality Assurance and Management Systems, Mr. Shabaya discussed the QMS’s overarching mandate and its relevance to both academic and support functions. He outlined essential training and engagement strategies necessary for compliance and maintaining ISO certification.
Role of Audits – Dr. Samuel Apima
Dr. Apima, Chairman of the Department of Statistics and Mathematics, emphasized the importance of audits in the QMS. He detailed the audit process, including planning, execution, and evaluation, while highlighting the significance of effective documentation and communication.


Citizen Service Delivery Charter – Dr. Emily Ng’eno
Dr. Ng’eno concluded the presentations by introducing the Citizen Service Delivery Charter, which reinforces KAFU’s commitment to excellence and transparency in service delivery. She elaborated on the charter’s importance as a social contract with stakeholders.
