Master of Science in Applied Mathematics

Master of Science in Applied Mathematics

Programme Code : SEA

Philosophy

The philosophy is rooted in Mathematical Modeling as a Service. It moves away from “Pure Math” (proving theorems for their own sake) to Applied Logic, where the primary goal is to create mathematical frameworks that can simulate, predict, and optimize physical, biological, and socio-economic systems.

Objectives

The programme is designed to equip learners with advanced competencies in applied mathematics and scientific research. The key focus areas include:

Advanced Modeling: Developing sophisticated models for complex systems (e.g., infectious disease spread, weather patterns, or financial market volatility).
Numerical Analysis: Mastery of algorithms to find approximate solutions to mathematical problems that are too complex for exact formulas.
Research Mastery: Equipping students with the ability to conduct independent, high-level scientific research.
Specialized Software Proficiency: Gaining expert-level skills in tools like MATLAB, Mathematica, Python, and LaTeX.

Mode of Delivery and Duration

Mode of Delivery: Full-time, Blended
Duration: 2 years

Admission Requirements

In addition to fulfilling the common university regulations, an applicant for the degree of Master of Science in Applied Mathematics should satisfy the following requirements:

(a) Hold a Bachelor of Science/Education with a First Class Honours or Second Class Honours (Upper Division) from a recognized university

Or

Hold a Bachelor of Science/Education with a Second Class Honours (Lower Division) from a recognized university

(b) Must have taken Mathematics as a major subject in the first degree.
