KAFU Shines at East Africa Ultimate Championships, Finishes 1st Runners-Up

Kaimosi Friends University delivered an impressive performance at the 9th Edition of the Crying Stone East Africa Ultimate Championships, finishing as first runners-up after a thrilling run that saw the team defeat some of the region’s top sides. The tournament, which brought together elite Ultimate Frisbee teams from across East Africa, provided a competitive stage for players to showcase their skill, endurance and teamwork. KAFU’s contingent rose to the occasion, demonstrating tactical discipline and exceptional coordination throughout the championship

KAFU began their campaign in dominant fashion with a commanding 13–1 victory over Tharaka University, setting the tone for a strong tournament run. The team displayed sharp passing, quick transitions and solid defensive formations that left their opponents struggling to match their pace.

Building on that momentum, KAFU advanced to the quarter-finals where they faced Impala Uganda, one of the tournament’s formidable sides. The university team maintained composure and intensity, securing a convincing 13–4 win to progress to the semi-finals. In the semi-final clash against Kakamega Wolves, KAFU continued their remarkable performance. The match proved competitive, but the university side maintained control and executed their plays with precision to seal a 9–4 victory, booking a well-deserved place in the finals.

The final match pitted KAFU against KEMRI Sharks, a seasoned team known for its experience and strong gameplay. Despite putting up a determined fight and showcasing resilience, KAFU fell short in the final, losing 13–9 in a hard-fought encounter.

Although the championship title slipped away, the university’s achievement of finishing as first runners-up marks a significant milestone for the institution’s sports programme and highlights the growing strength of Ultimate Frisbee at KAFU.

The team’s journey through the tournament reflected not only athletic ability but also discipline, teamwork and determination. Their performance drew praise from coaches and supporters who lauded the players for their dedication and competitive spirit.

University sports officials noted that such achievements continue to strengthen KAFU’s reputation as a rising force in university sports within the region. The success of the Ultimate Frisbee team also underscores the university’s commitment to nurturing talent and providing students with opportunities to excel both academically and in co-curricular activities.
