KAFU Represented at National SRI Synergy Blueprint Launch

Kaimosi Friends University was represented at the national launch of the Kenya Science, Research and Innovation (SRI) Synergy Blueprint held in Nairobi on 18 March 2026. The University was represented by Professor Caroline Mulinya, Director of the Center of Excellence for Climate Action and Research, reaffirming the institution’s commitment to advancing research, innovation, and knowledge-driven development.

The landmark event brought together key stakeholders from government, academia, industry, and development partners to unveil a unified framework aimed at strengthening collaboration across Kenya’s science, research, and innovation ecosystem.

The SRI Synergy Blueprint outlines a bold national agenda designed to address fragmentation in research efforts, enhance coordination among institutions, and ensure that research outputs translate into practical solutions that benefit society. The initiative also seeks to reduce duplication of efforts, improve funding alignment, and strengthen linkages between academia and industry.

The forum stressed on the importance of adopting a unified “whole-of-government” and “whole-of-society” approach, requiring seamless partnerships between the public sector, private industry, local communities, and academia to co-create solutions that would secure Kenya’s future success in wildlife, tourism, and MICE.

Kaimosi Friends University’s Strategic Role is as an Integrated Hub: The university is positioned not just as a trainer, but as a vital convener and innovation hub. Its unique value lies in integrating its functions applied research (through CECARE), curriculum development, and community engagement to address the national agenda’s central theme of linking community prosperity with environmental sustainability, particularly in its regional context.

Speaking during the launch, national leaders emphasized the critical role of science, technology, and innovation in driving economic growth, addressing societal challenges, and positioning Kenya as a competitive knowledge-based economy. The blueprint further proposes increased investment in research, development of human capital, and improved infrastructure to support innovation.

Professor Mulinya’s participation underscores Kaimosi Friends University’s growing role in shaping Kenya’s research and innovation landscape. As institutions of higher learning host a significant proportion of the country’s researchers, universities are expected to play a central role in implementing the blueprint through research, training, and community engagement.
