Residents of Vokoli in Vihiga County turned out in large numbers on 27th March 2026 to overwhelmingly turned up to support a proposal to transfer ownership of a key building at Moi Girls Vokoli High School to Kaimosi Friends University.
The initiative is set to unlock a new era of growth through the planned establishment of the University’s College of Health Sciences, an investment poised to redefine the region’s academic, social and economic landscape.

The stakeholder forum brought together community members, local leadership and university representatives in a shared vision for progress. It provided a vibrant platform for dialogue, collaboration and consensus-building, with residents expressing excitement in the opportunity to host a university facility within their locality.
The proposal was widely embraced as a forward-thinking step that aligns with the community’s long-held aspirations for educational expansion and empowerment.
Chairman of the Board of Directors at Moi Girls Vokoli High School, Indimuli Kahi, lauded the initiative as both timely and impactful. He noted that the building, which has remained underutilized for years, will now be revitalized into a center of excellence.
“This is more than a transfer of ownership, it is the realization of a dream. It breathes life into our community’s vision of hosting a university presence and ensures that our resources serve a meaningful, long-term purpose,” he affirmed.
Echoing this optimism, the area Member of Parliament, Hon. Clement Sloya, highlighted the government’s strong commitment to the project. He revealed that nearly KSh 185 million has already been invested through the Constituency Development Fund, underscoring the seriousness and scale of the initiative.
“Our people deserve institutions that not only educate but also uplift communities. This initiative has the power to position Vokoli as a centre of excellence in health sciences and a key driver of development in Vihiga County.” He said.
He emphasized that the establishment of the College of Health Sciences will not only expand access to quality medical training but also catalyze job creation, stimulate local enterprises and uplift livelihoods across the region.

“The establishment of the College of Health Sciences in Vokoli will not only strengthen our academic footprint but will also contribute to the training of future healthcare professionals while opening up new opportunities for the community.” Said Prof. Kipkurgat.
Residents who attended the forum spoke with optimism and anticipation, recognizing the immense opportunities the project will bring.
