The Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) School of Health Sciences (SoHS), established in 2022, is emerging as a flagship institution in western Kenya, offering a unique array of health and life science programs. Notably, the SoHS is only the second institution in Kenya to host an Optometry program at various levels, extending up to a PhD, alongside upgrade programs for diploma holders. Beyond Optometry, the school currently provides essential programs in Nursing and Clinical Medicine, which also extend to the postgraduate level. This specialization positions KAFU to significantly contribute to regional healthcare education.
The young and vibrant SoHS has ambitious plans to grow into a regional hub and center of excellence for health science training. Its future vision includes introducing programs in areas like Environmental Health, Oral Health, Pharmacy, and foundational Basic Medical Sciences such as Anatomy, Physiology, and Biochemistry. To achieve this, KAFU-SoHS is committed to forging strong partnerships with leading health professionals, industries, county governments, hospitals, and non-governmental institutions. This collaborative strategy is central to promoting excellence in health education across East and Central Africa.
