The Cabinet Secretary for Education, Mr. Julius Ogamba, on Thursday 18th December 2025 officially inaugurated the newly appointed Council, marking a major governance milestone for Kaimosi Friends University.
Presiding over the ceremony, the Cabinet Secretary underscored the central role of University Councils in providing strategic leadership, policy oversight, and accountability in public universities. He noted that strong governance remains the foundation upon which academic excellence, research, innovation, and institutional sustainability are built.

“University Councils are entrusted with safeguarding institutional integrity and vision.
Strong governance is the backbone of academic excellence and sustainability.
You must serve with integrity, diligence, and collective responsibility.
Together, we will position Kaimosi Friends University for national and global impact.” Said CS Ogamba.
Mr. Ogamba reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to supporting public universities through policy reforms, quality assurance, and funding mechanisms aligned to national development priorities, including the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda and Vision 2030. He urged the Council to work closely with the Ministry of Education, University Management, staff, and students to foster a stable and results-oriented institutional culture.

The newly inaugurated Council is chaired by Prof. Stanley Ominde Khainga, an accomplished plastic surgeon, academician and administrator. Speaking on behalf of Council members, Prof. Khainga pledged to uphold the highest standards of leadership, integrity, and accountability in steering the University’s strategic direction.
“We commit to provide visionary leadership anchored on integrity and transparency.
Our duty is to support growth, innovation, and institutional excellence.
We will ensure decisions align with our core values and policies.
Students, staff, and the community will remain central to our work.” Said Prof. Khainga. Welcoming the Cabinet Secretary to the University, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Peter Mwita described the inauguration as a defining moment in Kaimosi Friends University’s journey. He highlighted the University’s steady progress in student enrolment, academic performance, infrastructure development, and governance reforms

Prof. Mwita noted that the University now serves over 8,000 students across five academic schools and continues to strengthen its capacity in teaching, research, and service. He cited key milestones, including improved performance contracting results, sound financial management, expanded ICT infrastructure, enhanced security, and ongoing flagship projects such as the ultra-modern library and specialized health sciences facilities.

Our progress reflects commitment to quality, accountability, and service.
The new Council strengthens our foundation for the future.
Together, we are building a university of excellence and impact.” Said Prof. Mwita.
The Vice-Chancellor reaffirmed the University’s commitment to academic excellence, ethical leadership, and transformative education, calling for unity and collaboration among Council, Management, staff, students, and partners.
