KAFU Strengthens Leadership and Financial Governance Through High-Level PFM Training in Kisumu

Kaimosi Friends University has taken a significant step toward enhancing accountability, compliance, and financial stewardship following the successful completion of a three-day Public Finance Management (PFM) Standing Committee Training held from 22nd to 24th November 2025 at Sunset Hotel, Kisumu.

Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Nyamuhanga Mwita, delivering his opening remarks during the three-day Public Finance Management (PFM) Standing Committee Training at Sunset Hotel, Kisumu. Prof. Mwita reaffirmed the University’s commitment to strengthening financial governance, enhancing transparency, and aligning institutional systems with national and international reporting standards.

The training, themed “Strengthening Financial Reporting for Zero-Fault Audits in Public Institutions,” brought together senior university leaders, financial officers, and process owners for a comprehensive capacity-building engagement.

The workshop was facilitated by seasoned experts from the National Treasury, who delivered an extensive curriculum covering the Public Finance Management Act (2015), IPSAS financial reporting standards, procurement regulations, internal controls, budgeting frameworks, risk management, and ethics in public financial administration.

KAFU staff listen attentively as Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mwita, guides the team on strengthening financial governance and embracing global best practices in public finance management.

The opening session featured remarks from the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Peter Mwita, who reaffirmed that the university management is commitment to strengthening governance structures and aligning all financial processes with national and international standards.

“Strong financial stewardship is the backbone of a globally competitive university. As KAFU, we are committed to building transparent, accountable, and digitized systems that ensure accuracy, compliance, and value for every resource entrusted to us.” Said Prof. Mwita.

The Vice Chancellor emphasized that the University will continue strengthening its internal systems, enhancing financial reporting standards, and empowering staff to uphold a culture of continuous improvement in line with national regulations and ISO 9001:2015 quality benchmarks.

Their expert guidance ensured a practical, solutions-oriented learning environment that addressed both regulatory expectations and institutional needs. Over the three days, participants engaged actively in discussions, case analyses, and peer learning sessions aimed at enhancing operational efficiency across the institution.

PFM Committee members listen attentively to the trainer during a session focused on strengthening financial reporting and enhancing institutional compliance.

The training culminated in a powerful dialogue on “Achieving a Zero-Fault Audit through Effective Financial Reporting,” where participants explored strategies for improving accuracy, transparency, and institutional resilience.

In his closing reflections, the Deputy Vice Chancellor Prof. Thomas Kipkurgat commended the Committee for embracing a culture of continuous improvement, emphasizing that strong financial stewardship is a defining pillar for any university aspiring to global competitiveness.

With enhanced skills, renewed focus, and strengthened teamwork, the PFM Standing Committee returns from Kisumu equipped to elevate KAFU’s financial governance, optimize resources, and steer the University toward sustainable, accountable, and compliant growth.
