Kaimosi Friends University Hosts Vihiga County Business Awards, Celebrates Growing Partnership in Enterprise Development
Kaimosi Friends University continues to strengthen its position as a regional hub for innovation, enterprise development, and community empowerment. This was evident yesterday 21st November 2025 when the University proudly hosted the Vihiga County Business Awards Second Edition, an event that brought together top business leaders, innovators, and entrepreneurs from across the county.
While addressing participants at the ceremony, Governor Dr. Wilber Ottichilo commended KAFU for its transformative role in advancing Agribusiness, Smart Agriculture, and enterprise-driven research. He urged investors and entrepreneurs to leverage the expanding opportunities within Vihiga County, particularly those arising from the University’s growing academic and innovation ecosystem.
The Governor further highlighted major business prospects expected with the establishment of the Kaimosi Municipality and the upcoming modern Cheptulu Market, noting that these developments align with KAFU’s vision of contributing to economic growth through knowledge, skills, and community partnerships.
As part of its commitment to supporting local enterprise, the County Government reaffirmed its collaborative relationship with KAFU and other stakeholders. This includes a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Kenya National Chamber of Commerce & Industry (KNCCI).
Dr. Ottichilo also announced a two-year tax holiday for youth benefiting from the National Youth Opportunities Towards Advancement (NYOTA) Project, an initiative strongly aligned with KAFU’s youth empowerment agenda.
In his remarks during the Governors courtesy call to Vice Chancellor’s office, Prof. Peter Mwita, expressed deep appreciation to the County Government of Vihiga and KNCCI for choosing KAFU as the host venue and strategic partner for this important event.
He noted that the University’s collaboration with the County and KNCCI aligns with KAFU’s mandate to drive economic growth through research, innovation, and capacity building. Prof. Mwita reaffirmed that KAFU remains committed to supporting enterprise development, nurturing youth innovators, and leveraging knowledge to accelerate regional transformation.
“KAFU stands ready to work hand-in-hand with the County Government and KNCCI in shaping a future where innovation, enterprise, and education drive prosperity for Vihiga and beyond.” Said Prof. Mwita.
The event, themed “Honouring Excellence, Shaping Enterprise Development,” brought together a wide spectrum of business stakeholders, with winners celebrated across 35 award categories.
KAFU’s serene academic environment and modern facilities provided an ideal setting for recognizing excellence, fostering dialogue, and strengthening county university synergies for sustainable development. KAFU remains committed to enabling meaningful partnerships that shape entrepreneurship, innovation, and regional economic transformation.
