Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) was formally awarded its University Charter on August 2, 2022. This landmark event, presided over by the Government of Kenya, marked the institution’s elevation to a fully autonomous public university. Following the award of the charter, KAFU became one of the chartered public universities in Kenya, now operating under the provisions of the Universities Act, 2012, guidelines issued by the Commission for University Education (CUE), its own University Charter, and Statutes.
Kaimosi Friends University, formerly Kaimosi Friends University College (KAFUCO), was established in 2014. This status was formalized through Legal Notice Number 87 of May 22, 2015, where it was established as a Constituent College of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (MMUST). KAFUCO was a successor institution to the educational infrastructure previously occupied by the Kaimosi Teachers Training College (KTTC), building upon the rich academic heritage of the larger Kaimosi Complex.
The University is strategically located within the renowned Kaimosi Complex in Vihiga County, Western Kenya. Its serene environment is situated just 500 meters off the Chavakali-Kapsabet Road, providing an ideal setting for teaching, learning, and research. The founding University Council was instrumental in guiding the institution through its transition phase. KAFU is governed by a robust framework, ensuring accountability and adherence to its statutes. Since achieving its charter, the University has successfully held several graduation ceremonies, celebrating the academic achievements of its graduates.
Kaimosi Friends University is committed to providing high-quality education and training, striving to produce competent graduates who are responsive to the needs of a dynamic society. The University endeavors to excel in the areas of Teaching, Learning, Research, Innovation, and Community Engagement to achieve its mandate. The University currently offers graduate and undergraduate degrees, diplomas, and certificates across diverse fields, including Pure and Applied Sciences, Business and Economics, Computing and Information Technology, Education and Social Sciences, and the nascent School of Health Sciences. KAFU stands by its motto: “Spring of Knowledge.”
Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) demonstrates its profound commitment to delivering high-quality education and maintaining the security of its data and processes through strict adherence to international standards. This commitment is formally recognized by the University’s ISO 9001:2015 certification, which confirms that KAFU’s operational systems and processes follow internationally accepted standards for Quality Management. This notable achievement provides tangible proof that KAFU students are guaranteed an outstanding education supported by administrative and academic processes that are consistently monitored, evaluated, and continually improved. Ultimately, the ISO 9001:2015 standard provides KAFU with the necessary framework and tools to ensure its educational services consistently meet and exceed stakeholder requirements.
