The Legal Office of Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU) is established as a vital organ of the institution, with its authority rooted in the KAFU Statutes, which are in turn authorized by the KAFU Charter. This legal foundation mandates the Office to ensure the University fully complies with all legal obligations stemming from the overarching Universities Act, 2012, thereby safeguarding KAFU in all its corporate, administrative, and academic activities.
Operating directly under the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, the Legal Office serves as a key function providing comprehensive legal support and ensuring institutional compliance. Its core mandate is to offer expert, impartial, and timely legal and corporate secretarial services to all organs of KAFU. This responsibility is multifaceted: it provides Legal Advisory and Risk Mitigation through sound counsel to the Management Board and Senate to protect the University from potential litigation; it handles Litigation Management by coordinating all legal proceedings; and it works on Conveyancing and Contracts by drafting and negotiating key documents like MoUs, leases, and partnerships to safeguard University assets and legal integrity. Finally, it provides essential Corporate Secretarial Services, supporting the Vice-Chancellor and the University Council to ensure efficient governance and accurate maintenance of statutory records. In essence, the Legal Office functions as the Principal Legal Advisor to the University, ensuring that all governance and operational decisions uphold the rule of law and protect the institution’s integrity.
