The Directorate of Open Distance and e-Learning (ODeL) is actively transforming its e-Learning platform into a globally competitive Digital Campus to facilitate online teaching, learning, and the nurturing of future professionals, aligning with the university’s mission.
The Directorate is committed to ensuring every student, especially distance learners, receives an immersive and participative educational experience, providing flexible access to quality education regardless of geographical constraints, work commitments, family responsibilities, or personal choice.
Welcome to the Open, Distance & e-Learning (ODeL) Directorate at Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU)! Since our inception in 2018, our mission has been simple: to widen access to quality education, embrace flexibility, and extend learning far beyond the conventional classroom walls.At KAFU ODeL, we utilize a blended learning model, which combines the richness of face-to-face instruction with the convenience of online learning. The heart of this experience is our Moodle Learning Management System. It features:
- Live (Synchronous) Sessions: Real-time engagement between students and instructors.
- Self-Paced (Asynchronous) Materials: Flexibility for you to learn anytime, anywhere.
- Interactive Tools: Ensuring a rich and engaging learning experience.

Our Services
The Directorate of Open, Distance and e-Learning offers the following services;-
- Synchronous & Asynchronous Teaching Support:Â Providing tools and sessions for live (synchronous) interaction (chat, video conferencing, virtual classrooms), as well as asynchronous resources (recorded lectures, readings, assignments) so students can learn anytime.
- Learner Support Services:Â Including orientation, enrolment to the LMS and to the courses, tutorials, library and resource support, issuing reports and maintaining student records
- Technical Support & Help Desk:Â Helping students and faculty with technical issues like access to the platform, navigation, software/hardware issues, troubleshooting connectivity among others
- Module Development & Production:Â Facilitating and supporting the designing, development and uploading of course materials (digital and multimedia) specifically for online or blended learning
- Learning Management System (LMS) Administration:Â Managing and maintaining the LMS platform: uploading materials, managing user access, ensuring uptime, configuring interactive tools (forums, quizzes, live sessions)
- Assessment & Examinations:Â Managing continuous assessments, assignments, quizzes/tests, exams, grading, feedback mechanisms.
- Quality Assurance & Monitoring :Â Collaboration with QAMS to ensure that course materials, delivery, learner support, and tools maintain the required standards.
- Capacity Building / Training :Â Training faculty, students and support staff in e-learning pedagogy, instructional design, use of technology, best practices. Also training support staff.
