Kaimosi Friends University Hosts SRC for Monitoring and Evaluation Exercise

Kaimosi Friends University today hosted a delegation of the 3rd Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC) led by the Vice chair Dr. Gelda Odera, alongside commissioners Leonard Ashiundu and Geofrey Omondi.

The visit was part of a nationwide Monitoring and Evaluation exercise being conducted across all public university. Kaimosi Friends University being the sixth institution in Western region to undergo the exercise.

Welcoming the delegation was Vice chancellor Prof. Peter Mwita. He reaffirmed the university’s unwavering commitment to compliance with SRC advisories and policies. He also emphasized the institution’s dedication to maintaining strong working relations with staff unions, KUDHEIA, KUSU and UASU in fostering a harmonious and productive working environment.

In her remarks, Dr. Gelda noted that the third commission organized the Monitoring and Evaluation Exercise to help universities identify grey areas within their operational structures and gain deeper understanding of key issues such as Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBA’s) and the wage bill.

“This is not a fault-finding mission, but a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening institutional frameworks and improving the operations of our public universities”, she remarked.

Dr. Gelda also emphasized that the Monitoring and Evaluation Exercise serves to help both the Commission and institutions understand the extent of implementations of issued guidelines and circulars, enhance integration and engagement and monitor the execution of corrective measures recommended by the commission. She added that the process equally offers an opportunity to build long term partnerships with the commission placing a strong focus on productivity enhancement.

Commissioner Omondi underscore the importance of job evaluation urging the institution to establish job evaluation clinics to sensitize teams and define clear employee roles. He further encouraged participation in the upcoming 4th Review Cycle to ensure progressive alignment with the SRC’s evolving standards.

On matters productivity the delegation emphasized the need for clear and reliable performance metrics for both administrative and academic staff. Commissioner Ashiundu revealed that that a National Productivity Framework, a structured system designed to measure, recognize and reward productive public servants. He later noted that the framework ams to cultivate a performance driven culture across the public sectore.

Concerning the Collective Bargain Agreements, Commissioner Ashiundu called for the expedited negotiation and closure of pending CBA’s, he urged the institution to move with speed to enhance employee welfare and industrial harmony.

The exercise was highly interactive giving Kafu staff members an opportunity to ask questions and share insights on crucial matters surrounding the CBA and the Wage Bill. The engagement reflected a spirit of openness and collaboration reinforcing the shared commitment between SRC and Kaimosi Friends University towards strengthening governance, accountability and productivity within Kenya’s higher education landscape.
