 Profile:

Prof. Godfrey W. Netondo holds a BSc in Botany and Zoology (1988) and MSc in Botany (1992), both from the University of Nairobi and a PhD in Botany (2001) from Moi/ Maseno University. He is a Professor of Botany and the current Dean, School of Physical and Biological Sciences, Maseno University. He is a beneficiary of the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD)/University of Nairobi staff development scholarship (1988) for his Master of Science degree and a DAAD in-country scholarship (1994) for his Doctorate degree. In 2002 he received a six months DAAD post-doc research scholarship tenured at the Department of Plant Cell Physiology, University of Giessen, Germany where he worked in the lab of Prof. Aart van Bel. He has worked at Maseno University since December 1991 rising through the ranks from Tutorial Fellow to Professor in 2013. He has served in various leadership positions spanning about twenty years, including Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic and student Affairs in acting capacity. Prof. Netondo is a member of Kenya National Academy of Sciences and Kenya DAAD Scholars Association (KDSA). He has research interests in the broad theme of environmental plant stress physiology. He also has a special interest in agro-biodiversity conservation and ecosystem services nexus. He has to date published more than 40 refereed scientific papers. He has supervised 15 masters and 6 PhD students to completion. He has also served as examiner of more than twenty theses. He has also served as external examiner for various universities in Kenya, for both undergraduate and postgraduate coursework.
