In October 2024, Tony Oliver Ongaro became the first student from Kaimosi Friends University to undertake the Language Assistant (Assistant de Langue) programme in France run by the French Embassy. The programme introduced in 2021, is financed by the Ministry of Education and Youth in France. Every year, 150 Kenyan students from Kenyan universities as well as those from Alliance Française embark on this programme.
In this programme, students of French go to France (or its departments and territories in the world) in order to teach English in schools. They benefit from being immersed in a totally francophone linguistic and cultural environment thereby giving them an opportunity to enhance their knowledge and skills in French.
The French Embassy awarded Tony a free return air ticket thanks to his advanced level in French. He is currently attached at a school in the island of Réunion (Réunion is a department of the metropolis France) where he is teaching English to students that study it as a foreign language. He has set a good precedent for other KAFU students of French to emulate.
The University started offering extra-mural classes in in DELF B1 (Diplôme d’Études en Langue Française niveau B1) and above from semester 1, 2024/2025 Academic Year. This underscores KAFU’s zeal to produce quality graduates that meet the dynamic needs of a global market.
We hope to see more students of French locally and internationally enroll in this once in a lifetime opportunity offered at KAFU in their pursuit of mastering the French language
