KAFU Submits Views on CBC, University Education

November 10, 2022 | Kaimosi Friends University submitted its recommendations to the Presidential Working Party on Education Reforms.

The Working Party which is going across the country to collect views on Competency-Based Curriculum and university education was represented by Koitalel Arap Samoei University College Principal Prof. Winstone Akala, and Dr. John Nyangena, a Chief Economist in the Ministry of Planning and National Development.

KAFU was led by the acting DVC Academic and Student Affairs Prof. Julius Kipkemboi. With him were the acting DVC Finance and Development Prof. Moses Musasia Amadalo, Director Research, Innovation and Outreach Prof. Benson Ojwang, Director Graduate Studies Dr. Remmy Shiundu, Senior Registrar Academics Dr. Jane Amunga, associate Dean SESS Dr. Metrine Sulungai, Curriculum and Instruction’s Dr. Aggrey Amugune, Dr Dinah Were (EFPM), Dr. Tom Mong’are (Criminology), Dr. Moses Okonda (UASU), Director (DIAL) Dr. Caroline Mulinya, Mr. Hillan Rono (ICT), Ms. Lillian Rono (ODeL), and students representatives.

Issues in the KAFU memorandum to the working party include status of university education, training and research; universities’ preparedness in the adoption of CBC; current governance structure and management of universities; the proposed National Open University of Kenya; hindrances for implementing ODeL; legislations governing university education; KUCCPS placement of students in private universities and modalities for financing these students; financing model for public university education and research; best way of increasing access and equity in university education; establishment of community universities; and improving employment in universities.
